We said the Zip it, Lock it, Put it in your pocket chant 18 times!!

One of my super smart and sweet Kinderbugs told his mom that we said the Zip it, Lock it, Put it in your pocket chant 18 times!!! (Five year old translation......he was tired of hearing the same thing over and over!)   While hilarious, it got me to thinking.   During my days of teaching Pre-K, I had lots and lots of songs memorized for transitions.  Sadly, when I moved to kindergarten, I didn't use them as much......so I forgot many of them.  Well, I decided to google transition songs and found a plethora of new and old songs and chants.  I am going to print them off and put them in a book to keep near the front of the room so that maybe my Kinderbugs won't get tired of me saying the same things over and over. :0)  I am including a few samples below:

(Sung to Do Your Ears Hang Low”)
Can you clap, clap, clap?
Can you snap, snap, snap?
Can you wiggle, wiggle, wiggle?
Can you slap, slap, slap? (slap hands on knees)
Can you wrap your arms around yourself
And give yourself a hug?
Can you sit quietly on the rug?

Here are grandmother's glasses
(make rings around eyes with fingers)
Here is grandmother's hat
(make a triangle above head with fingers)
Here is the way she folds her hands
(fold hands)
and puts them in her lap
(put hands in lap.)

(Sung to the tune of Shortin Bread)
Everybody have a seat, have a seat, have a seat,
Everybody have a seat on the floor.
Not on the ceiling, not on the door...
Everybody have a seat on the floor.

Everybody get quiet, get quiet, get quiet,
Everybody get quiet on the floor
Dont make a sound, dont wiggle around
Everybody get quiet on the floor.

(Sung to the tune of Are You Sleeping)
Eyes are watching, ears are listening, mouth is closed, mouth is closed
Hands and feet are still, Hands and feet are still
We're going __________ (home, to lunch, to p.e., to library, etc.)

Wow! Great start to week two!

The kinderbugs came in ready to learn today!  We only had to review the rules one time!!  :0)

We are learning all about the letter Bb and the sight words see and me this week.  Today we read Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?.  The bugs loved it and helped me "read" it several times.  We are also learning all the calendar songs.  The favorites right now are the I Can Count to 20 Song and the Seasons song.

Here is a little about our rules:
I use 5 of the power teaching rules and modified them for kindergarten:  Thanks to Ashley Nichols from the thekinderpolkadotpatch.com for the cute printable rules.
